247Sports thinks one of the Tennessee Vols' new assistant coaches will be among the most impactful new assistant coach hires in college football in 2024.

New Vols linebackers coach William Inge was listed among 247Sports' "most-impactful assistant coaching hires" this week.

From 247Sports: William Inge was expected to follow Kalen DeBoer to Alabama to aid Alabama on defense, but changed his mind and landed with the Vols. He inherits a talent-loaded position group of linebackers in Knoxville, too. Inge bring a proven resume to Tennessee with assistant coaching experience at the college or NFL level spanning more than two decades. A former all-conference player at Iowa, Inge previous college coaching stops include Washington, Fresno State, Indiana, Buffalo, Cincinnati, San Diego State, Colorado and Northern Iowa.

Inge was set to be Alabama's new linebackers coach under Kalen DeBoer. But when the Vols' linebackers job came open (because of Brian Jean-Mary's departure for Michigan), Inge opted for Knoxville over Tuscaloosa.

Tennessee's new linebackers coach has a strong reputation as an assistant coach in college football and he brings some valuable defensive coordinator experience with him as well. There aren't many linebackers coaches as well-regarded as Inge.

The Vols also hired former Cincinnati Bearcats running backs coach De'Rail Sims this offseason to replace Jerry Mack as Tennessee's running backs coach.
