J.C. Jackson's status with the team remains unknown heading into the 2024 season.

And while Director of Scouting Eliot Wolf addressed the team's current feelings on Tuesday, it was Jerod Mayo's turn to talk about it on Wednesday.

Speaking with reporters at the NFL Combine, Mayo echoed Wolf's sentiments.

"Those discussions are still going. I love J.C.," Mayo said (via The Boston Herald's Doug Kyed). "Coached him, saw him develop into a man. We'll see how that goes going forward, but heck of a football player. Two years removed from injury."

The Patriots could save a lot of money by releasing Jackson or simply restructuring his contract, with the cornerback currently having a cap hit of over $14 million.

“I would say we haven’t come to a decision on that,” Wolf said Tuesday. “We’re working through that. Haven’t talked to the defensive staff about that specifically yet.”

But it will eventually be a topic that they will have to address.

It was a season of ups and downs for Jackson, with the cornerback having started the season with the Los Angles Chargers, but was traded to the New England Patriots in the beginning of October. With the injuries, he earned a spot in the lineup quickly, but it started to go downhill quickly.

Jackson was benched for part of the game during New England's loss to Washington and then was forced to stay home while the team traveled to Germany the following week.

It was later confirmed that it was disciplinary, with Jackson explaining that it was because he missed “bed checks” at the Patriots team hotel prior to their game against the Commanders.

However, he put all that behind him and returned to the field. But then he was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list a little while later.

So right now it's uncertain whether Jackson will be on the Patriots next season. And it seems Wolf and Mayo aren't too sure either.
