The Chicago Bears released former Pro Bowl guard Cody Whitehair to save $9 million in cap space. It seems like an odd move, but when you dig just a bit deeper, it makes a ton of sense.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the team has also released firmer Pro Bowler Eddie Jackson, who is somewhat of a fan favorite in Chicago.

Jackson has had stints of being a top-three safety in the league at times during his career. Last season was definitely not one of those seasons. It was a down year, but that's not to say he can contribute to another team.

Releasing him will save the Bears $12.5 million in the 2024 offseason, according to Over the Cap. Now, after releasing Whitehair as well, the Bears will have an extra $21-ish million in cap space to play around with.
