On Sunday, The Kansas City Chiefs will officially submit their name to that rare list where only a few franchises can claim the same title in their history. They are now a dynasty because four Super Bowl appearances in six years get you that title. February 11, Patrick Mahomes will be the only quarterback in NFL history to start in four Super Bowls before the age of 30.
He's 28. And finally, on Sunday, Mahomes will have a shot to continue his quest to become the greatest of all time, where, if we are being honest, only one man stands in his way. To reach that territory, he has to get seven rings, or at least near it, all while continuing the more than impressive career he has displayed for the world.
If Mahomes wins his third Super Bowl in just a few days, there will be legit conversations about him and the Kansas City Chiefs reaching the New England Patriots territory. One NFL insider already predicted what would happen in Mahomes's career.
"My guess is six or seven," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said during a Radio Row interview with 810 Sports. "They are going to be here – might they be here every year, very possible."
When Tom Brady won his last Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, it was pretty much widely agreed upon that he was the greatest football player ever, as the discussion that held him back prior was that he had the greatest coach in NFL history as well. He won in Tampa, without Bill Belichick, and it changed the entire discussion. Not to mention, he beat Mahomes.
When you compare Mahomes and Brady through one another's first six years in the league, Mahomes' stats are better across the board in every category. However, through his first six years, Brady already had six rings. If Mahomes wins Sunday, he will have Brady beat through the first six years. Brady also went ten years between his third and fourth rings.
If Mahomes reaches six or seven Super Bowl wins like Rapoport believes he will, there's no doubt he will be considered the greatest player to ever play in the NFL. But that all starts on Sunday against Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes just has to do what he did the first time he won a Super Bowl, only this is not the same 49ers team at all.
