The San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs play on Sunday at 5:30pm ET in Super Bowl LVIII to decide the new NFL champion. The matchup will be held at Allegiant Stadium, in Las Vegas. Below, check out everything you need to know about the game.

How to watch

The main broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII is going to be on CBS, with Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Tracy Wolfson. Nickelodeon will have an alternative broadcast targeting a young audience. Univision will broadcast the game in Spanish. There will be a streaming option available on Paramount+. If you are not from the United States, here is a list of NFL partners across the globe.

Odds

The gameline varies around the betting world, but most places are putting the San Francisco 49ers as a 2-pt favorite and the over/under around 47.5 total points.

Players to watch

Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes is the youngest quarterback ever to start the Super Bowl four times, and you can't start the conversation without him. It was a relatively down year statistically speaking for the Chiefs, with constant problems with weaponry and offensive options, which caused Mahomes to have his worst passer rating (92.6) since becoming a starter in 2018.

However, it was still an impressive individual performance, especially down the stretch. In the playoffs, Mahomes has had four touchdowns and no interceptions over three games — zero turnover-worthy plays, according to PFF. He is the big reason why the Chiefs are here, even though the defense has played at a high level.

Travis Kelce

Kelce had his first season with fewer than 1,000 receiving yards (984) since 2015, and that's mostly because he only played 15 games. It was also his first season with fewer than 1,100 yards since Mahomes took over as the starter in 2018. The season hasn't gone exactly how Kelce expected individually, but the Chiefs made a concerted effort to keep him healthy for when it matters the most.

Now, it seems like Kelce is fully healthy and ready to go. The passing game goes primarily through him, and he had six receptions in the previous Super Bowl against the 49ers, four years ago, including a touchdown.

The secondary options, like Rashee Rice and Isaiah Pacheco, will be important for the outcome of the game, but don't overthink it, Kelce is the guy Mahomes will look for.

George Karlaftis

The Chiefs defense, and particularly the secondary, has been amazing. But second-year edge defender George Karlaftis will be extremely important since the Chiefs lost Charles Omenihu, who tore his ACL in the AFC Championship Game.

The right side of the 49ers' offensive line is a weak link, and Karlaftis' ability to exploit that and apply pressure on quarterback Brock Purdy might be decisive for the Chiefs to limit such an explosive offense.

Brock Purdy

It's been a little more than one year since Purdy took over as the 49ers' starting quarterback, and now he is facing the biggest game of his life. In spite of a good final drive against the Green Bay Packers and a good second half against the Detroit Lions, Purdy has been up and down at best in the playoffs.

His passer rating went down from 113.0 in the regular season to 87.7 in the postseason, and the argument of facing tougher defenses is not exactly a good one — the Packers are 27h and the Lions are 13th in defensive DVOA. The Chiefs are seventh, and playing better down the stretch, so Purdy has to play better.

Christian McCaffrey

McCaffrey was the offensive player of the year and third in the MVP voting process, just behind Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott. When the 49ers traded for him during the 2022 season, it was fair to wonder if the team had spent too much for a running back, but McCaffrey destroyed every argument against him, being extremely efficient both as a runner and as a receiver.

Over two playoff games, McCaffrey has had 260 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns. He is the soul of this offense, even though it has so many amazing weapons like George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Trent Williams.

Fred Warner

The 49ers' defense hasn't been as dominant this year as it had been, but it's still a strong unit and will have a big challenge to limit Mahomes. The Baltimore Ravens' defense did that to a certain degree, as the Chiefs scored only 17 points in the AFCCG — zero second-half points —, so it's feasible.

And the best piece to do that is Fred Warner. Arguably the best off-ball linebacker in football, he changes the complexion of a defense, making it almost impossible to attack the middle of the field. Especially against an offense without great outside weapons, this can be a big factor.

DJ Tiësto was expected to be a part of the pre-game show, but he had to drop out due to a "personal family emergency."
