Boy, does the coaching world move fast in both college football and the NFL?
Just a couple of hours after news broke that Bill O’Brien would be heading to Boston College, the Ohio State Buckeyes have already landed on his replacement.
The Buckeyes are adding UCLA HC Chip Kelly to be their next offensive coordinator. This news was first broke by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.
Kelly was the biggest potential name on the market before O’Brien even left. Here at A to Z Sports, we primed Kelly as the top target to take over the Ohio State offense earlier today.
Head coach Ryan Day will be handing the play-calling duties over to Kelly, just like he was going to with O’Brien. It is the first time in Day’s head coaching tenure that he will not be calling the plays on offense in Columbus.
Kelly brings a boatload of experience and that is something that Day pointed out that was important with O’Brien. Kelly has been the coach at UCLA since 2014, before that he spent time between the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Oregon as the head coach.
For the month of February or anytime, this is a big coaching get. Day and Ohio State moved quickly after the O’Brien news and the position is now filled.
