When Myles Garrett claimed his first NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, there were several detractors.

Garrett is a polarizing name among NFL fans.

Some think he's overrated while others view him as a generational talent. But after winning the award, Dallas Cowboys defensive star Micah Parsons came to the defense on the analytics star that is Garrett.

"I thought it should have gone to Myles, if not me, and I said that publicly," Parsons said. "It's just as simple as that. Look at the Titans game alone. No offense but, T.J. played the Titans, did you see two tight ends following T.J. Watt? Did you see they're following him all across the line? People can say whatever they want, but at the end of the day, the film does not lie. His presence is way more dominant than T.J. Watt."

The reality is Parsons is right. Garrett did deserve the award. Though the counting stats may not pop off the page like other game-wreckers on the awards shortlist, his gravity sets the tempo for the rest of the Browns defense.

Cleveland made the playoffs on the back of its defense. Garrett was much of the reason for that success. It's good to see at least one other defensive star coming to defend the Browns' star.
