Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker has announced charges against two individuals in the mass shooting at Union Station just after the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory rally on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
These new charges are against two adults and not the two juveniles who were charged in Jackson County Family Court last week. Those two juveniles could later be certified and tried as adults, but are currently being held in juvenile detention on gun-related and resisting arrest charges.
The two men charged were identified as Dominic M. Miller of Kansas City, Missouri, and Lyndell Mays of Raytown, Missouri. Both adults face felony charges of second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and two counts of unlawful use of weapons. The combination of charges means that each will face up to a life sentence in prison.
They're both currently being held on separate $1 million bonds.
The shooting left a 43-year-old mother of two, Elizabeth 'Lisa' Lopez-Galvan, dead. 22 other individuals were injured in the shooting, including these two men.
Jackson County prosecutors maintain that the shooting was the result of a verbal altercation and argument. The results of the investigation show that Mays pulled his weapon first. His weapon is believed to have killed Lopez-Galvan.
Additional charges could be filed pending the results of further investigation.
