The NFL franchise tag window opened on Tuesday, as teams around the league can place the franchise tag on their impending free agents through March 5.
The Miami Dolphins could be among the teams using the tag. DT Christian Wilkins, with whom the Dolphins were unable to reach a long-term deal before the season last year, remains a candidate to receive the tag.
Placing the tag on Wilkins wouldn't be something out of the ordinary for the Dolphins, who have a relatively long history of using the tag. Here are all of the previous times the Dolphins have placed the franchise tag on one of their players.
Mike Gesicki

The Dolphins used the tag on Gesicki on March 8, 2022 for $10.931 million, which Gesicki signed.
Jarvis Landry

Landry was tagged on February 20, 2018 for $15.982 million, which Landry signed.
Randy Starks

The Dolphins tagged Starks on March 4, 2013. The big defensive tackle signed the tag for $8.45 million.
Paul Soliai

Miami placed the tag on Soliai on February 24, 2011, which he signed for $12.749 million.
Jason Taylor

The Dolphins tagged their future Hall of Fame defensive end in February 2001. Taylor did not end up signing the tag, as the two sides work out a new contract for 6 years and $42 million, which Taylor signed on July 24, 2001.
Richmond Webb

The Dolphins tagged Webb in back to back seasons in February 1999 and March 2000. Webb signed both times, for $3.45 million in 1999 and $4.14 million in 2000.
Tim Bowens

Bowens received the tag from Miami in February 1998, which he did not sign. The two sides ultimately reached an agreement on a long-term deal in August 1998 for 5 years at $25 million.
