A former Carolina Panthers running back is getting his opportunity to coach at the college ranks.
DeShaun Foster, a 2002 second-round draft pick and running back for the Panthers until 2007, will be coaching the University of California, Los Angeles, Pete Thamel reported Monday.
Foster is in the UCLA Hall of Fame and worked at the school as an assistant coach since 2017.
In five seasons with the Panthers, Foster tallied 3,336 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.
He also appeared in six playoff games, amassing 401 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
When Foster walked away from playing football following the 2008 season, he began coaching.
He was a student assistant in 2013 with UCLA. He then became a graduate assistant at the school before moving on to Texas Tech to be a running back coach.
Foster returned to UCLA to be a running backs coach in 2017 through 2023. Now, he has the keys to run the entire program.
