Sports Illustrated kicked off the NFL offseason by making some bold predictions for each NFL franchise and their prediction for the Pittsburgh Steelers certainly qualifies as "bold".

Connor Orr, an NFL writer for Sports Illustrated, predicted on Tuesday morning that veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill will start at least four games for the Steelers in 2024.

From SI.com: This isn’t an anti-Kenny Pickett take, but it is an acknowledgement that the Steelers have some pressure to perform, they play in a tough division and were aggressive in pursuing Arthur Smith when Smith was let go by the Atlanta Falcons. Mason Rudolph is a pending free agent, and while he may end up possessing a higher upside than Tannehill, the Steelers could find some Tommy Maddox-style magic in the arm of the former first-round pick.

The Steelers released Mitch Trubisky on Monday. And Mason Rudolph, who is set to be a free agent, has reportedly indicated that he'd prefer a fresh start elsewhere.

Tannehill makes sense as an obvious choice for the Steelers thanks to his connection to new Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Tannehill's best season in the NFL came in 2019 with the Tennessee Titans when Smith was his offensive coordinator (Tannehill's only Pro Bowl season).

While Tannehill, who will turn 36 this summer, obviously isn't the same quarterback that he was five years ago, he still works well with Smith. And he could be a playable option for the Steelers if Pickett suffers an injury/doesn't perform at a high level.

Pickett, who is entering his third season in the NFL, hasn't played more than 13 games in either of his first two seasons with the Steelers. Sports Illustrated's Tannehill prediction is bold, but it's also very realistic.
