On Super Bowl Sunday we learned that Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick had "received permission" to request a trade, according to sources close to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
A plot twist came two days later.
On Tuesday after the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl LVIII win, Reddick told Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz that he never requested a trade and would like to stay in Philly.
“I would like to get an extension done here at home," Reddick said, via Schultz's X/Twitter. "At no point did I ever tell the organization I want to be traded. This is home for me. I was born and raised here. Two of the most fun years playing football in my life came here. I’ve cherished being an Eagle.”
Reddick even took to X himself to confirm Schultz's report.
"Never asked for a trade," he wrote. "However, I do understand it’s a business. Preparing for whatever is next!
Schultz also cleared up Rapoport's initial report and wrote in another X post that the "Eagles are aware that Haason Reddick has one year left on his contract and needs a new deal, informed his camp that they could explore trade options if they want to."
Reddick, 29, signed a three-year, $45 million contract extension with the Eagles in 2022 which means he enters the final year of his deal in 2024 and is expected to make $16 million next season, though nothing is fully guaranteed.
It's clear that Reddick will be looking for a raise but if he wants to stay in Philadelphia that badly, then he and the Eagles may come to an agreement.
But it's worth noting that if the Eagles are giving him the freedom to look elsewhere, then they're not very keen on paying him and general manager Howie Roseman is well aware that several teams will be interested in acquiring him, which could outweigh the benefits of keeping him.
Reddick remained a constant bright spot on the Eagles' lackluster defense this past year and finished the 2023 regular season registering 38 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and a pass defended in 17 games.
