After the Super Bowl LVIII Rally and Parade for the Kansas City Chiefs concluded, the KC Police Department reported that shots were fired near the parade route and rally at Union Station in downtown Kansas City.

The police department and other law enforcement officials rushed into Union Station shortly after this announcement. They released a pair of updates within a few minutes after the initial announcement.

"Officers are working to clear Union Station itself. We will release everyone inside the building once that is complete. We are still trying to determine the number of shooting victims.

We are releasing everyone from inside Union Station.

Shots were fired west of Union Station near the garage and multiple people were struck. We took two armed people into custody for more investigation.

Anyone nearby needs to leave the area as quickly and safely as possible to facilitate treatment of the shooting victims. Please avoid the Union Station parking garage area to allow first responders through.

We request witnesses to the shooting to please go to the southwest corner of Pershing and Main.

Remember the child reunification stations in the area are at 2301 Main and inside the main entrance of Union Station. We still have several needing reunification. Contact the officer nearest you for reunification information.

Now the only child reunification location is inside Union Station."

According to KSHB-TV 41, the shooting occurred west of Union Station near the garage. Two people are currently detained in connection to the shooting. Multiple people are injured, with the Kansas City Fire Department releasing a statement that as many as 10 victims could have been struck in the act of violence. KC Police have confirmed that some victims have been transported and are being treated at Children's Mercy Hospital.

The KCPD is asking that people leave the area as quickly as possible so that they can get the victims the proper treatment from first responders.

Update: The latest updates from KC Police say three victims suffered gunshot wounds. Two other victims suffered non-gunshot wounds and have been transported.

Update 2: The KC Fire Department has confirmed one victim is dead, three are in critical condition, and five are in serious condition.

Update 3: University Health reports they are treating four gunshot victims and eight victims with non-gunshot wounds via KSHB-TV.

Update 4: One victim has passed away per KCPD.

Final update: Mayor Quinton Lucas and Police Chief Stacey Graves held a press conference. You can find more here. Look for new updates in subsequent articles here
