While they aren't naming an official general manager, it seems the New England Patriots have decided who will have control of the personnel side of things.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Eliot Wolf will reportedly be responsible for the personnel department in New England, working closely with new head coach Jerod Mayo.
As for Matt Groh, he will be in charge of college scouting.
This has been the way things have been heading in recent weeks, with many of the Patriots new coaches and executives being from Wolf's past with the Green Bay Packers.
Wolf has been with the Patriots since 2020, when he joined as a consultant, but has moved through the ranks.
The Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan further reports that the Patriots were not expected to use the "general manager" title, but they were always expected to name a personnel head. And that person is Wolf.
He now enters a very important offseason for the franchise, with the Patriots currently holding the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. They also have tons of money in cap space, with the opportunity to bring in top-tier talent.
So far, there have been four hires who have connections with Wolf. They just brought in Alonzo Highsmith as a front office executive, along with new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, offensive assistant Ben McAdoo, and defensive line coach Jeremy Montgomery.
