NASHVILLE — Former Tennessee Titans offensive line coach Jason Houghtaling has landed a new NFL job after just one season as the offensive line coach in Tennesssee.

Houghtaling previously worked as the assistant offensive line coach to Keith Carter on Mike Vrabel’s coaching staff (2021-2022) and was promoted when Carter was fired in 2023.

Now, Houghtaling is back in the assistant role with the Chicago Bears for the 2024 season.

Houghtaling is a former collegiate offensive coordinator and head coach that worked as the head coach at Wagner College, a Division-I FCS program from 2015-2019.

In 2021, the Titans hired Houghtaling as the assistant offensive line coach to Keith Carter, who was fired after the 2022 season and did not have the best relationships with his players. Former Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan was one of the players to speak out against Carter's coaching style.

“When Keith first got there, the way he came in and the way he was trying to act towards everybody, like very disrespectful… very authoritative, but in a very like dictatorship-type of way,” Lewan said.“I just wish he focused a little bit more on taking care of the older players."

Houghtaling initially appeared the antithesis of Carter, Titans center Aaron Brewer commended "Hoss" for his willingness to collaborate and listen to his players.

But the Titans offensive line continued to be a disaster in 2023. Derrick Henry consistently had a difficult time with defenders hitting him int he backfield. Tennessee was also in the bottom five in sacks allowed (64).

Both Ryan Tannehill and Will Levis got injured during the season after taking a sack.

Houghtaling was not retained by new head coach Brian Callahan, which was to be expected. He now goes to Chicago under Matt Eberflus for his next opportunity.
