Pittsburgh Steelers Release Mason Cole

The Steelers released center Mason Cole on Friday. Cole was the team's starting center the last two seasons (2022-23). He started a total of 34 regular season games, 17 each season during that time. He also started the Steelers Wild Card playoff game in 2023. Cole was the recipient of 'The Chief' Award in 2022, named after Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr. and presented to a member of the Steelers organization who best exemplifies the spirit of cooperation with the media that Rooney displayed. -Teresa Varley, Pittsburgh Steelers

Cole was a welcomed addition in 2022, holding down the fort up front and playing at an above average level.

2023 was different however, with Cole letting up multiple interior pressures, and perhaps more notably, struggling to snap the ball on a consistent basis.

A durable player who is beloved by his teammates, Cole will likely land on his feet as a more than capable backup in the league.

As for Pittsburgh, the move frees up cap space and ensures that they will have to acquire either a free agent or draft pick at center, with a focus now on the position as they no longer have a starter.
