Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons is able to generate chaos off the field with almost as much ease as he is on the field.
On the biggest week of the season to date, Parsons spoke something into existence that will be the fans' newest big fear: The possibility of leaving Dallas.
Parsons, asked about Dan Quinn's potential departure as he is once again drawing significant interest around the NFL, didn't hold back his jokes.
“It’s the nature of the business," Parsons told reporters via The Athletic's Jon Machota. "It could possibly be my last ride with (Quinn). And if it is, we’re gonna make sure it’s a damn good one.”
So far so good. Fans know Parsons will be fired up for the playoffs and that he'll surely make an impact on the field against Jordan Love's Green Bay Packers, who boast one of the best offensive lines in the league.
But the thing is Micah didn't stop there, and instead added a one-liner that's guaranteed to make several eyebrows raise and some fans to lose some sleep over Parsons' long-term future in Dallas.
“Dan is my guy," Parsons added. "And if he does leave, it’s always love. He might take me with him, you never know.”
He said what, now? Listen, Parsons isn't afraid to be silly when he feels like it during media availability sessions or on his livestreams for Bleacher Report. And Machota clarified he does believe Micah was joking.
Perhaps most importantly, the Cowboys have a strong hold over his future, as Micah is still under contract through 2024 and his fifth-year option is a lock to be picked up, meaning he's secured until 2025. After that, the franchise tag is an option for the Cowboys so this isn't something that can blow up in the near future.
Ideally, the Cowboys should avoid contentious negotiations, however and avoid a scenario where it comes to him fighting a franchise tag. We're talking about an already-historic player that is genuinely chasing GOAT-esque legacy.
There's no way the Cowboys let him walk out the door.
But even if he said it in a funny way, Parsons could very well be playing advanced chess before his contract negotiations with the Cowboys even start. He just drew first blood in the upcoming war with what might (or might not) have been a joke.
I'll say this: For this comment to have been made just ahead of the first offseason in which he's eligible for a second contract, this is going down as a sneaky first move in my book.
