Finding a replacement for Bill Belichick may seem like an impossible task.
However, this is a moment it seems Robert Kraft has been preparing for, and it seems he may have already found Belichick's successor.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Jerod Mayo is "a strong candidate" to become the next head coach and instead of going through all the interviews, the Patriots "could simply hire him."
Mayo was set to take some head coaching interviews following the 2022 season, but the Patriots released an unprecedented statement announcing they have signed Mayo to a long-term contract extension.
And with that, many people speculated that there was talk of what happens after Belichick.
Rapoport had something to say about that too.
"…they established a firm, contractual succession plan in a prior contract & communicated it to the NFL," he wrote on X, formerlly known as Twitter.
And here's how this can happen:
It seemed that Mayo and Mike Vrabel were at the top of the list for possible successors, but Kraft may have already made his mind up.
Now all that's left is an official announcement.
