Could the Dallas Cowboys look into Bill Belichick?

My dad had this crazy and weird habit as a New England Patriots fan where he would randomly ask me out of nowhere: "What would you do if Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were traded to the Dallas Cowboys?"
He knew it was impossible and that it was never going to happen yet he would ask it with a chaotic smile knowing he'd get my head spinning. And so he kept on asking it whenever he thought of it for years upon years.
Oh, boy, he'd be having his fun with the latest Bill Belichick news now that he's out as Patriots head coach. Now, it seems like everyone in Cowboys Nation is stopping for a brief second and asking themselves "Would Jerry Jones do it?"
Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk recently joined 105.3 The Fan and made the case for Belichick to Dallas. ESPN's Adam Schefter, meanwhile, seems to be hinting at a mystery team to be in the running for the six-time Super Bowl champion coach.
"I think it would be a mistake to look at the board with just seven other openings right now,” Schefter said on Get Up! via the New York Post. "There may be a team out there out of the playoffs, in the playoffs, that has a head coach, that this morning woke up to the news that Bill Belichick is a free agent."
Those comments have led many to speculate and bring up the fact that Jerry Jones loves Belichick and has talked glowingly about him in the past. With all of that being said, let's explore this together.
Does Belichick to the Cowboys even make sense?
Superficially, it's easy to make the case for Belichick. He's done it time and time again. Sure, he's won the Super Bowl six times but he's made it another three, too. He won the AFC East 17 times and had 19 consecutive winning seasons.
Some will suggest it was all thanks to Tom Brady, an simple-minded stance that crumbles as soon as you realize how different each of those Patriots teams were.
But at some point, you've got to look past all of the achievements from years ago and ask yourself if a 72-year-old coach that was so unwilling to evolve that he even signed old buddy Matt Patricia to coach offense instead of defense is worth it? You've also got to ask yourself if Belichick would truly relinquish control over team-building, an area he hasn't been good at all for years now.
If you're the Cowboys, bringing in Belichick also means giving up on Mike McCarthy, who has led Dallas to three consecutive 12-win seasons and one of the best offenses in the league this year. It could also cost the team Will McClay, who's been the de-facto GM in D-town for years now.
McCarthy tapped into the very best football we've seen from Dak Prescott and has established the right culture in Dallas. Risking it all for a legendary coach who has recently failed to evolve would probably hurt the Cowboys more than it would help. It's a mistake that should be avoided.
