With only two NFL head coach jobs still open — the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks — it's becoming increasingly likely that former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel won't land a new head coach job during this cycle.

Vrabel recently interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers, but both franchises have since hired hew head coaches.

So if Vrabel doesn't land a head coach job, what will his next move be?

Here are four potential options for the former New England Patriots linebacker.

New England Patriots defensive coordinator

Vrabel hasn't been linked to the defensive coordinator opening in New England, but it could make some sense if it becomes apparent that Vrabel will be an option for a non-head coaching role.

Jerod Mayo, the Patriots' new head coach, was teammates with Vrabel in 2008 in New England. We know that Vrabel thinks highly of the Patriots organization, so it wouldn't be out of the question for the former Titans head coach to welcome a return to New England in an assistant coach role. He could also serve in a variety of other defensive roles under Mayo.

Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator

Dave Canales, the man that Carolina hired instead of Vrabel, needs a defensive coordinator. Vrabel just interviewed with the Panthers, so perhaps there could be a fit there. Canales has never been a head coach before, so he could certainly use a former head coach to lean on for advice. Of course, Vrabel would have to accept not being "the guy", but that's something he'll have to accept anywhere he lands that isn't a head coach job. Vrabel and new Panthers general manager Dan Morgan played in the NFL during the same era, so there's some common ground between the former NFL linebackers.

Ohio State analyst

If Vrabel wants to take it easy for a year while waiting on next year's coaching cycle, he could head to his alma mater to serve in a defensive analyst role. That's a nice way to stay involved in football while not committing longterm to a job. Vrabel served as a linebackers coach and defensive line coach at Ohio State from 2011 to 2013.

Wisconsin analyst

Vrabel is close friends with Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell, so this could be another destination that makes sense. Vrabel and Fickell, who were college roommates, have worked together before at Ohio State. Vrabel might not mind spending a relaxed year as an analyst with his old friend.
