The Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles just got much more interesting days into the 2024 NFL offseason (at least for both teams it's the offseason after early playoff exits) as the latter made a major coaching decision on Saturday night.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles are hiring former Cowboys quarterback and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to coach their offense.

It's a major piece of news as the Eagles seek to revamp a coaching staff that massively underwhelmed in 2023 and led to the parting of ways with both coordinators, Brian Johnson and Sean Desai.

This means that for the second year in a row, the Eagles will be working with a brand new duo of coordinators after losing Shane Steichen (Colts HC) and Johnathan Gannon (Cardinals HC) following their 2022 Super Bowl run.

This time though, things bode much better for Philly as the replacements are two proven coordinators in Vic Fangio and Kellen Moore.

The hiring of Moore in Philly will lead to a whole new level of NFC East drama. Not only did the Cowboys let Moore go after 2022 but the offensive playcaller who replaced him, Mike McCarthy, is still around in Dallas as he's set to return on a contract year.

Not to mention, despite a great regular season calling plays, McCarthy did struggle in the postseason in a major way, which was the biggest reason why he took the reigns from Moore in the first place.

What to expect from Moore in Philadelphia

After his departure from the Cowboys last year, Moore spent one season coaching Justin Herbert with the Los Angeles Chargers. Now he gets a signal-caller with the same initials but certainly not the same arm.

Moore has been known to be a great play designer even if he has some clear tendencies that hurt his offenses. That being said, there's no questioning he's been mostly successful from a statistical standpoint.

As A to Z Sports Philadelphia's Kelsey Kramer points out: "In four seasons under Moore, Dallas ranked second in total offense (391.0 net YPG) and scoring (27.7 PPG). Moore's offense was also the league's fourth-best passing offense (264.4 net YPG) and ranked seventh in rushing offense (126.6 YPG)."

Moore will work with quarterback Jalen Hurts, who has shown he can be a double-edged sword as he's a legitimate threat as a runner. His "plus one" ability in the run game will be interesting to see under Moore, as he recently struggled to get anything going in the run game with the Chargers.

Before Herbert's injury, Moore's offense ranked Top 10 in the NFL in dropback EPA/play and success rate through Week 13. That's all fine and well but L.A. was 32nd in rushing success rate and 27th in EPA/play.

A big part of what will determine his success in Philly will be his ability to put together a strong running game as the Eagles will still have a strong offensive line and physical football team that will want to play that kind of football.

I can't wait for the Cowboys to square off against their former friend twice per year moving forward. We'll see how much that lasts.
