The Kansas City Chiefs found a way to make it back into the Super Bowl – their fourth appearance in the last five years. It's truly been incredible to watch, especially when you factor in the issues they had this season, in particular to the wide receiver room.
The one guy who has been disappointing, mainly because fans and media know how good he can be, is Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who will be the first to tell you he hasn't had the best season. Between the drops, the missed timed routes, and a few other things, he hasn't been great.
That is – until the postseason comes around. It feels like that's when it does; MVS turns his game up a notch. We saw last postseason the game he had against the Cincinnati Bengals, and now, against the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens, he had some huge catches.
On Thursday, Andy Reid kept it real about the season MVS has had.
"Look, I'm proud of him because he played well for us last year," Reid said to the media. "This year, he had a couple of drops in big situations, didn't hang his head, didn't lose confidence, he kept battling, working with Pat (Mahomes). He kept going, figuring that it would turn around. Here he comes up these last two games were huge catches. Very similar to what he did last year in a couple of games. I'm happy for him most of all that he was able to recover or whatever you want to say from what was going on earlier."
In the Super Bowl, the Chiefs will need someone to step up in the wide receiver room. Last season, in the big game, it was a combination of everyone. Kadarius Toney had the punt return and touchdown, Skyy Moore had a touchdown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster worked the middle of the field well.
This team does not have that same ability for some odd reason. Kelce has had his struggles this year, and Rashee Rice is a rookie, so we can't expect him to carry a huge workload. It will have to come by way of the veteran, and the way he's been playing tells us he will be there.
