The New Orleans Saints offseason has gotten off to a roaring start. They have a new (targeted) offensive coordinator in Klint Kubiak. They have started to chip away at their salary cap deficit. One of their most beloved players of the last decade went on a social media rant regarding the team and its quarterback.

During the NFC Championship, Michael Thomas gave his thoughts on his injury from this season and the direction of the Saints franchise. It went a bit viral.

Recently, Saints QB Derek Carr responded to the tweets from Thomas and gave his point of view. He was respectful, but honest, in his reaction.

“I probably didn’t throw the best ball. If that’s how he wants to view it and see it, completely fine by me. I also understand that when I came in the building we had Chris Olave, who they were trying to train to be the No. 1 guy. So all of a sudden, every rep in practice is Chris first. As a superstar that Mike is, I can understand you’re dealing with all the injury noise, you’re dealing with Chris becoming the guy – and he loves Chris, but I can understand where the frustration starts to build.”

Carr took accountability for the pass to Thomas where he suffered his injury from this past season. That ailment forced him to miss seven games. Thomas dealt with a couple of other injuries during the season as well.

Carr's insight does shine some light into the ideals surrounding the offense going forward. They believe that Chris Olave is a blossoming star and understood the potential reaction that can get from a veteran like Thomas who has given so much to New Orleans.

Overall, it sounds like Carr was just frustrated with how Thomas handled it. Carr has no issues with his frustration, but he wishes that the veteran receiver would have just kept it inside the building – rather than throwing it all over social media.

That is not a huge ask from the quarterback in the NFL.

"I hope Mike finds what he’s looking for. I hope he gets everything he wants in life, because I do love Mike. In that moment, I didn’t really like it. Just call me bro. To say all these things. I felt like we were doing some middle school thing. Just talk to me, and Mike was great about talking to me this season."

As of now, it does not seem like Thomas will be back for the black and gold. His potential exit is a bit marred by his social media rant, but he gave the Saints elite production for part of his career with the franchise. Both sides now need to move forward.
