Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes put on the most fun post season press conferences that I've ever covered in my career. The man put on his chefs hat and he went into the kitchen and cooked with everything he said. The biggest thing he said though was a message for the fans and everyone in the media. The message was very strong, but it also featured a little bit that could be telling for the Lions future.

"This is what I want to tell really our fans is it's only going to get better. We're only gonna get better. I don't want anybody to think that this was a one shot Cinderella magical journey that just happened. No, it's real. this is exactly what was supposed to happen." Holmes said. "I understand that based on history from what's happened in the past. Like I understand you have a season like this. It's easy to feel like this was kind of a one shot magical, lucky, cute story, which I'm tired of hearing. It was it was none of that. It's easy to think that but no, every move that me and Dan make, it has been made to sustain what we are building. I'll say every single move we make and every single move we do not make is to sustain what we have been building. So it's real."

I mean that's quite the message right there. I know I've seen a large share of Lions fans all year having the feeling that this was the Lions one shot. It's not. This team is built for long term success and that's the only thing they care about. Getting to be successful and then staying successful.

There's one part of that message that really stuck out to me though and it plays into the sustainability the Lions are looking for. It's the part where Holmes said "every single move we make and every single move we do not make is to sustain what we have been building."

That right there is something that could define this offseason for the Lions. It certainly defined the Lions at the trade deadline when they didn't make a move that would have brought in a pass rusher or a cornerback to help them on their run. The Lions didn't make the panic move and it's going to pay off for them in the future.

They now don't have to pay that expiring contract that they would have likely accrued and they don't have to worry about losing the picks they gave up for that guy either. They can continue to build their way. A way that's paying big dividends in year three.

In terms of this offseason, there's going to be a lot of players that Lions fans are hoping the team will acquire in free agency to help the Lions on their expected run towards the Super Bowl. The Lions aren't going to put themselves in a position that could hamper them in the future to make sure they get a big name. That's not to say they won't, but it is to say that the Lions aren't going to pursue something that they don't feel good about just to try to win a championship.

Teams do that every offseason and it rarely works out. Fans have to be happy that they have a group that doesn't want to jump the gun on this thing. They want to win a championship and then go back and win another championship as opposed to loading up to maybe win one and then deal with cap hell after they do.

We'll see exactly what they do in March. Things will be much different than they've ever been for the Lions though. Great front office, great coaching staff, great culture a great team on the verge of winning a championship. sounds like a destination to me.

Here's Holmes entire presser. I recommend you watch it.
