One of the Tennessee Vols' top 2025 recruiting targets is five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr.
Sanders, 6-foot-6/270 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
The coveted recruit was at Tennessee this past November for the Vols' game against Georgia.
Sanders isn't expected to reveal his top 8-10 schools until February, but he already knows when he's planning to commit.
The North Carolina native told On3 this week that, as of now, he plans to commit in August or early September.
"As of right now, my commitment date is going to be sometime in August or early September,” said Sanders to On3. “That’s the target we’re shooting for as of right now because I want to really go in-depth with schools during spring visits and official visits throughout the summer and get a deeper look at each school and just make sure I make the right decision.”
Sanders is expected to take another visit to Tennessee in the spring.
Clemson, Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas A&M are among the programs pursuing Sanders.
It's Clemson and Georgia, however, that stand out as the biggest threats to Tennessee.
Landing five-star quarterback George MacIntyre earlier this week will certainly help the Vols' chances in this recruiting battle. But this is a battle that won't be won easily. Tennessee will need to nail every aspect of Sanders' recruitment this summer if they're going to get a commitment from him in the fall.
