The Las Vegas Raiders have now hired their head coach, Antonio Pierce, and their general manager, Tom Telesco, who was the former Los Angeles Chargers general manager. However, this decision to hire Telesco has left Raiders fans shocked and, frankly, upset.
Champ Kelly, the interim GM last season, Tom Telesco, and Ed Dodds were the three candidates that the Raiders liked. Fans wanted either of the other two to be the general manager, and I can understand why.
He was good at getting talent to the Chargers, whether it be Justin Herbert, Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Rashawn Slater, or Derwin James. But he is also responsible for contracts like the atrocious J.C. Jackson contract. He ruined the Chargers cap situation. So, fans are worried he will do the same thing in Las Vegas.
But the majority of the fan base is upset because they wanted Champ Kelly. However, Mark Davis didn't want a repeat of the Dennis Allen/Reggie McKenzie situation. Davis also did not want a rookie head coach and a rookie GM at the same time, which they technically would be as the interim tag would be lifted.
However, the Raiders can still make their fan base happy. They can still retain Kelly on their staff. Kelly is still under contract for the Raiders as an assistant GM. If he doesn't get a GM job, as there are only two teams remaining with openings the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers are the only two teams without a GM at the moment, he could be hired back as the assistant GM by Telesco.
So, Raiders fans, they can still make everyone happy.
Antonio Pierce to give veteran coach more prominent role on Raiders’ staff
