The Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. will in fact be receiving yet another accolade following his impressive rookie campaign.
Anderson will be headed to the 2023 Pro Bowl games in Orlando, Florida next Sunday as a replacement for Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby.
Crosby underwent a successful knee surgery following the conclusion of the 2023 season and will be unable to take part in the Pro Bowl. Anderson joins left tackle Laremy Tunsil as the only Texans' players who were named to the Pro Bowl in 2023.
The Texans' third overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft started 13 games and recorded 45 tackles 67 pressures, 7.0 sacks, and one blocked field goal. His 7.0 sacks set a new rookie franchise record for most sacks in a single season.
According to the Texans' official press release, Anderson will be the first Texans' "defensive player to make the Pro Bowl since J.J. Watt, Jadeveon Clowney and Benardrick McKinney were selected in 2018."
Anderson's week as now included two high honors after also being named as the PFWA's Defensive Rookie of the Year alongside Texans' quarterback C.J. Stroud who was named as the Offensive Rookie of the Year. The two will be looking to become the fourth teammate duo to take home the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards in the same season during the NFL Honors on February 8th.
Anderson and Stroud's impact during their rookie campaigns helped fuel the Texans to an AFC South division title for the first time since 2019. Houston reached the Divisional Round of the AFC Playoffs before being eliminated by the No. 1 seed Baltimore Ravens. The future looks bright in Houston with these two star-caliber rookies leading the charge.
The Pro Bowl games will be taking place over two days next weekend. The skills challenges will be held on Thursday, February 1 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET and will continue on Sunday, February 4 which will conclude with a game of flag football.
