The New England Patriots have signed Michael Jordan.
But no, it's not the six-time NBA champion.
Jordan previously played with the Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers, and the Green Bay Packers. But now he's headed to New England after the Patriots signed him to a futures contract, the team announced on Wednesday.
The Bengals drafted him in the fourth round of the 2019 draft and he began his rookie season as the starting left guard. In his first two seasons, both of which were with Cincinnati, he appeared in 19 totals games before being released after training camp in 2021.
The Panthers claimed him off waivers, and he was once again the starting left guard for them. He started in 10 seasons that season and then played in all 17 games in 2022.
Following that season, he moved to the Packers practice squad after being released by Carolina after training camp.
Throughout his entire career, he has played 55 games with 29 starts at left guard.
Sidy Sow, Atonio Mafi, and Jake Andrews mainly played at guard on the offensive line this season. Especially after Cole Strange missed a lot of time due to injury, including suffering a season-ending one in Week 15. While Strange is expected back next year, Jordan provides some additional depth at the position.
And after all the injuries to the offensive line this season, they can use all the depth they can get.
This move by the Patriots also marks Jerod Mayo's first signing since being named the new head coach.
