The Miami Dolphins have some major question marks to answer on their roster as the 2023 season wraps up.  And with salary cap issues looming, the answers won't be all that easy to find.

Christian Wilkins is due an extension.  Tua Tagovailoa is as well, although the amount will be curious to see.  Jevon Holland needs to be locked up.  The other starting safety, DeShon Elliott, just wrapped up a one-year deal as did Andrew Van Ginkel.  Three Week 1 starting offensive linemen are unrestricted free agents.

Now, it's possible Miami could have another position they might need to address in the offseason.

LT Terron Armstead met with the media on Monday as the players cleared out their lockers following a 26-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.  It did not sound certain that he would be returning next season.

Armstead mentions that his process isn't any different than previous years.  That he prays, talks with his family, and takes some time to consider what he wants to do.

However, it's undoubtedly been one of the more physically grueling seasons for the oft-injured Dolphins' left tackle from before it even began.  Armstead suffered a significant knee injury during a joint practice with the Houston Texans in mid-August.  He was unable to start the season, being replaced by Kendall Lamm.

He missed the team's first two games before aggravating his knee injury against Buffalo and missing the next four games.  He appeared in 10 games for the year while dealing with ankle, knee, and back issues.

The Dolphins are currently projected to be almost $55 million over the 2024 salary cap, per OverTheCap.com.  There are moves they can and will make (i.e., long-term extensions, contract restructures, etc.) to get under the cap, but they still have a lot of work to build not just a functional line, but an improved one from 2023.  Starters Connor Williams, Isaiah Wynn, and Robert Hunt are all unrestricted free agents.

And now a fourth starter is worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks, which would add yet another problem that Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel would have to address in what will already be a busy and pivotal offseason.
