The Baltimore Ravens play their first postseason game on Saturday after having the first week off and they decided to go ahead and sign four-time Pro Bowler, Dalvin Cook, to the 53-man roster on Thursday morning, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
In return, they waived two-time Pro Bowl running back, Melvin Gordon.
How much will Cook play and how effective will he be?
The Ravens currently have just two healthy, rostered running backs in Gus Edwards and Justice Hill, so there's a chance Cook sees a few snaps on Saturday.
The last five or six months certainly haven't gone the way Cook envisioned when he signed with the New York Jets back in mid-August. The 2023 has been an absolute disaster for the former second-rounder and it's easily resulted in the worst year of his career, as he ran for a career-low 214 rushing yards on 67 carries. The Jets released him before season's end so he could try and latch onto a playoff team.
Cook is still a dual threat and he can still pass block, so there is certainly some kind of value having him on the field. The Ravens just need to be smart about when they use him. If they play their cards right, Cook could be in line to make a couple of nice plays against DeMeco Ryan's defense.
I wouldn't expect much, but it's an interesting layer that could certainly have an affect on the game once it kicks off. We'll see what happens.
