San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams is widely expected to play in the Super Bowl next month, but, even if the Niners get there and prevail to win a sixth title in franchise history, the veteran will not be riding off into the sunset on a high.

Having talked about retirement as a possibility following the Niners' defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in last season's NFC Championship Game, Williams made it clear ahead of Saturday's divisional round clash with the Green Bay Packers that he is having no such thoughts this year.

Asked if he would return for a 14th season in 2024, Williams, per Eric Branch of The San Francisco Chronicle, said: "Oh, yeah. One hundred percent."

Part of his motivation to keep playing is to break the record for the most career Pro Bowls by an offensive tackle.

He was named to his 11th consecutive Pro Bowl this season, putting him in a four-way tie with Anthony Munoz, Jonathan Ogden and Willie Roaf among tackles.

"I want to break the record for tackles," Williams said. "That's a big thing for me."

"I'm not an emotional guy," he added of moving level with that Hall of Fame trio.

"So I didn’t cry or nothing — so don't go writing that. But it did take me back a little bit. I remember just dreaming about making my first Pro Bowl: 'What do I have to do to get in that conversation? ' And then fast forward 11 years later, I'm in my 11th straight Pro Bowl.

"It was one of those moments where you're working so hard, you look back and you're like, 'Dang I accomplished all that.' … I definitely dropped to my knees and thanked God. Because that's not promised. You can have an amazing Hall of Fame career and still not see 11 Pro Bowls. So I’m super proud of that."

Under contract through the 2026 season, Williams, who has previously expressed a desire to play into his 40s, has ample opportunity to potentially solidify his place as the greatest tackle of all time with several more Pro Bowl selections, but the greatest achievement of his career could be only a matter of weeks away.
