Longtime Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has landed a new job. O’Brien is set to return to college to be the offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

O’Brien was the Texans head coach from 2014-2020 for seven total seasons. Now, he’s back to the college ranks to lead what is one of the top offenses in college football each year normally.

O’Brien went on to be the offensive coordinator for Nick Saban at Alabama after he left the Texans organization. He was with the Crimson Tide for two seasons, until he joined Bill Belichick in New England once again to be the offensive coordinator.

As the coach of the Texans, he went 54-52 and 2-4 in the playoffs. O’Brien was the head coach at Penn State for the 2012-13 seasons and went 15-9.

Now, O’Brien is set to revive an Ohio State offense that scored just over 30 points a game this past season. It wasn’t the high-flying offense that is normally in Columbus, so the former Texans coach has a great opportunity at hand to get things right.

The 2024 season will be the 31st year in the coaching world for O’Brien. While the Texans looked to have found themselves a great coach with DeMeco Ryans, it’s not a bad thing to look at what former coaches are now taking on.
