The Dallas Cowboys made headlines recently by announcing they will retain HC Mike McCarthy for the 2024 NFL season.

Essentially, the plan is to run the entire thing back. The Cowboys are preparing and expected to offer Dak Prescott a new contract extension this offseason. All of this after another playoff loss. A portion of the Cowboys' fanbase will undoubtedly feel negative about all of this.

Prescott deserves to be the Cowboys QB1 for years to come, in my opinion.

Prescott has an almost $60 million cap hit for the 2024 season. This makes agreeing on a new extension important.

So important, that Prescott and the Cowboys are expected to stay on track to discuss a new contract extension. Is a large contract offer incoming from the Cowboys? It appears that way, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The postseason struggles are a talking point when pertains to Prescott's value and place amongst his peers in this league. That said, there is more blame to go around after the loss to the Green Bay Packers than just the QB.

Prescott earned a new deal after his 2023 season

Prescott played outstanding during the 2023 regular season after many questions about his turnovers and overall level of play.

Well, Prescott silenced those doubters and detractors with his play on the field during the regular season. The latest report should be seen as confirmation of obvious suspicions about his future rather than bombshell news.

In 2023, Prescott completed 69.5% of his passes for 4,516 yards, with 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He ranked top three in all of those statistics among his QB peers.

Prescott proved that he can be the engine for the Cowboys offense without former star RB Ezekiel Elliot or a power run game.

If the Cowboys desire to lock their star quarterback with a new lengthy and hefty contract extension, I do not see the issue. Prescott has earned it.
