The Houston Texans have had a coach that most teams want on their staff for the 2024 season. First-time offensive coordinator and play caller Bobby Slowik has been requested to interview by more teams this season than any other candidate. He is what we call a "coaching hot commodity."

So far, almost every team with a head coaching vacancy has asked him to interview for their head coaching position. And, it's easy to see why, as the Texans had one of the more explosive offenses in the league, despite what the final score said on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens.

And, when you factor in everything else – a rookie head coach with a rookie quarterback and a team that won three games last season, it makes Slowik look even more impressive.

The Texans inserted themselves as a team to be reckoned with in the future; however, many think, including myself, that they will have to find a new offensive coordinator this offseason. Not because they will fire him, but he may accept a head coaching job elsewhere, and why wouldn't he?

But that bad offensive performance, where the Texans scored just 10 points in a playoff game, three points by the offense if you don't count the special team's touchdown, may be a blessing in disguise for the Texans.

Maybe other teams will see this and be hesitant to offer Slowik a job. If so, that's their loss and the Texans' gain.

Switching offensive coordinators and offensive philosophies is tough for a young quarterback, and that would mean C.J. Stroud would have two play callers and systems in two years, and that's not good for consistency.

Maybe, just maybe, he will be able to stay in Houston, and the Texans can build off of what they did this season. Then again, we all know that likely won't happen. Slowik deserves to be a head coach, regardless of what happened against a very, very good Ravens defense.
