The Kansas City Chiefs went through the wringer in 2023-24. This was supposed to be their own year, and it was, but for them, even in a down year, they can still make the AFC Championship. The down year was constituted by the offense playing badly most of the year and the pass catchers not catching passes. It's really that simple.

No one on the Chiefs had it worse than Marquez Valdes-Scantling, though. Well, maybe a few others did, but MVS was definitely the guy people were making fun of after games. He was a laughing stock, and fans started to grow to hate him.

His dropped touchdown ball, and a few other drops basically made Chiefs Kingdom turn against him. Fans were not happy with what he said after the game, too. But, on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, he had two of the biggest catches of the game.

"I have trust in 11 [Marquez Valdes-Scantling], man," Mahomes said after the game. "He comes to work every single day. Even though he has gotten some hate from outside the building, we trust him and love him here, and we know he's going to make plays whenever his number is called. He did that today in a big game, and we will try to carry that into next week."

MVS had a very nice one-handed catch over his right shoulder that went for a pretty big gain, and then later in the game, on a crucial down, he caught a ball for a first down. We also cannot forget the penalty he drew in the red zone, which also helped the Chiefs' offense.

This is so similar to how last season went in the AFC Championship against the Cincinnati Bengals, where MVS was the unsung hero with some really huge plays. Was he bad this year? Yes. But he stepped up when it mattered most, and the guys believe he will do it time and time again. Petty Mahomes was throwing dimes to MVS.
