NASHVILLE — Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel appears to be well on his way to landing another NFL head coaching job.

The 48-year-old head coach who spent six seasons in Tennessee has recently received a lot of interest from multiple teams with coaching vacancies. Momentum seems to be building towards Vrabel being hired during this coaching cycle.

Vrabel recently interviewed for the head coach position with the Los Angeles Chargers, has an upcoming interview with the Atlanta Falcons, and has received interest from the Seattle Seahawks.

ESPN recently predicted Vrabel to land the job in Seattle and replace Pete Carroll as the next head coach of the Seahawks.

Best Landing Spot

Of the teams that have been linked to Vrabel this week, which one would be the best place for the former Titans coach to land? I have to look at the Los Angeles Chargers and the fact that the quarterback situation is stable.

Justin Herbert is one of the game’s best young quarterbacks. As long as he’s on the roster, the Chargers are going to have a really high offensive ceiling. For a defensive coach like Vrabel that had inconsistent offenses during his Titans tenure, the stability provided by an elite young quarterback would really benefit him.

One of the biggest questions surrounding Vrabel relates to his ability to hire staff around him. Both Todd Downing and Tim Kelly failed to innovate the Titans offense in a way that improved Tennessee’s passing game. Defensive coaches need to be able to hire the right offensive coordinator to have sustained success…or they need an elite quarterback running the offense from the huddle.

The Chargers have a guy who can do that and a partnership between Herbert and Vrabel could lead to a lot of big wins for the franchise. While I can picture a fit for Vrabel in Seattle or Atlanta, I'd keep an eye on Vrabel for the Chargers' job if it doesn’t go to Jim Harbaugh.
