The Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders are the lone teams in the NFL with head coaching openings, and they each are interested in Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.

The Seahawks are reportedly set to touch base with Macdonald for the first time on Tuesday. The Commanders, on the other hand, reportedly conducted an in-person interview with Macdonald on Monday. They held a virtual interview with the second-year defensive coordinator earlier this month.

Queen starred under Macdonald over the past two seasons, and he sees that the defensive-minded coach is deserving of soon becoming a head coach in the NFL.

"I think he's the best candidate out there right now," Queen said on Monday. "I don’t think anybody does it like him. Nobody cares like him. Nobody will do what he does. He will not rest until he has everything right.

"Whoever gets him, if he leaves, they're getting the best candidate out there. The guy is all around just the best person I’ve ever been around, coach-wise, person-wise. He really cares and truly cares about the players, the people around the organization and the fans."

Kyle Hamilton has blossomed under Macdonald. Hamilton has emerged as a do-it-all safety for Baltimore, and his standout play in the regular season this year was good enough to earn him a spot on the 2023 AP First-Team All-Pro roster.

As with Queen, Hamilton believes that Macdonald has proven that he is ready to become a head coach.

"He deserves everything that’s coming his way," Hamilton said on Monday. "If that is a head job somewhere, then we’re all super proud of him. I think everybody has their own journey, own time in this league, and he’s a hot name in this league right now, and deservedly so. He’s done a great job with us for the past couple years, and he’s earned it, and it hasn’t been given to him."

The Ravens led the NFL in points per game allowed (16.5) in the regular season this year.
