Texans can stack their roster on day two of the draft with another big weapon for C.J. Stroud in 2024

Going from picking early in the 2023 NFL Draft to now in the back end for 2024 is a different feeling for the Houston Texans. They haven't been in that situation in some time. So, there are decisions to be made in the first round that may not be as easy to make as the one to take C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson.
They can do various things in the first, whether going for an offensive lineman, defensive tackle, wide receiver, tight end, defensive back, or even linebacker. Despite making the playoffs and winning a home playoff game over the Cleveland Browns, there is still much the Texans can do to become even better. Next year is the year they make that jump to legit contenders.
With the Texans bringing back QB coach Jerrod Johnson and OC Bobby Slowik, next year has to be better than this last, which will be hard to beat. So, this pick has to be right. I'm not saying what they should do with the first pick because a bunch of different things can happen regarding who is taken before and the trades offered, but I do know one player they should at least look at.
Texans should look into WR Xavier Legette with first-pick
Now, no one is saying the Texans need to go and draft three or four weapons in this draft. However, they should add at least one more. The offense was great against the Browns but think about adding another guy who could be unguardable, allowing the offense to be even more dynamic and potentially unstoppable. This draft is stacked with WR talent, and the Texans will likely take one regardless; however, now it's about where they take one.
This draft is pretty unknown when you think about which receivers will go in the first and throughout the rest of the draft. Depending on who is available, it depends on what the Texans will do. But, if South Carolina WR Xavier Legette is available, and they could trade back and still get him, the Texans should consider it. He would be the perfect weapon for Stroud to have.
Here is what A to Z Sports' Rob Gregson, who has watched him closely at the Senior Bowl, had to say about Legette:
While Legette is built like a prototype for the perimeter, South Carolina utilized his skill set in multiple alignments and recognized the ball in his hands is always a good thing. Legette's innate ball skills and physicality make him a jump ball merchant, turning 50-50 balls in his favor. Despite displaying surprising fluidity to get in and out of breaks, Legette is best on vertical patterns, making one cut and getting up the field. Teams looking for a static X on the backside of 3×1 formations as a pure ball winner and deep threat will covet Legette in the draft. – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports
The offense didn't necessarily get worse when Tank Dell went out for the Texans. It stayed consistent until they played the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs. Baltimore consciously tried to remove Nico Collins, who is Stroud's security blanket. That cannot happen again, and sure, with Dell back, it won't happen as often, but adding another potentially elite receiver would only help.
Gregson gave a floor comp, which means, at the very least, a player will be similar to who they are compared to, and a ceiling comp, which means the best version of himself. For Gregson's floor comp on Legette, he thinks, at the very least, he will be Laquon Tredwell, a guy with good size and athletic ability but, with the right development, could become a guy people remember. Regarding ceiling, Gregson thinks Legette could be another D.K. Metcalf, which is saying something.
In A to Z Sports' Big Board, James Foster has Legette as the 49th-best player and the ninth-best receiver in this draft. The Texans don't even have to go after him in the first; however, his stock could very well change after a very impressive Senior Bowl week. It's something the Texans should certainly entertain.
2024 NFL Mock Draft: Browns miss out on offensive difference maker that lands with Texans
The Browns wouldn’t change anything yet, but imagine.
