The Tennessee Vols' 59-3 win against the UConn Huskies last weekend was a surprisingly "chippy" game.
Before the game even started, UConn and Tennessee players were jawing at each other during pre-game warmups.
The chippy vibe continued throughout the game as Vols defensive back Doneiko Slaughter said this week that UConn was "talking so much trash".
After the game, UConn head coach Jim Mora hit Josh Heupel with a drive-by handshake after appearing to say something that drew a smirk from the third-year Tennessee head coach.
Mora opened his post-game press conference by oddly saying that his players played with class "before, during, and after the game".
On Tuesday, Mora met with reporters ahead of UConn's upcoming game against James Madison. And he was asked what he meant by his comments about his team playing with class.
"I mean, it started in pre game," said Mora on Tuesday. "And our guys did a tremendous — it followed us all the way to the locker room, unfortunately. And I was so proud of the way our players held themselves together in very tough times. And handled that environment and showed class. And not striking back at some things that would probably be hard to not strike back at had they not had the class that they had."
The back half of Mora's quote is likely referring to Tennessee defensive lineman Omarr Norman-Lott parading through a group of UConn players with a UT flag after the Vols' 59-3 blowout win.
I'm surprised Mora is making such a big deal about what went down at Neyland Stadium last Saturday (especially since his players were apparently talking just as much trash). That's life in big-time college football. It was just another Saturday afternoon for the Volunteers.
