It's anyone's guess what will happen with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick once the 2023 NFL season comes to an end.

You know about all of the accolades. You know about the Super Bowls, the defensive genius, the Patriot Way work ethic that's been described as unparalleled in the league. But you also know about the post-Tom Brady days of Belichick.

In 2023, it feels like the legendary coach is hitting rock bottom with the franchise that witnessed him become one of the greatest coaches of all time. It's bad enough for many to question if he'll be in New England next year.

The Athletic's NFL insider Diana Russini just made a major statement about his future with the team in a recent article in which he discussed Belichick's relationship with owner Robert Kraft.

"In talking to those who have spent time around the Patriots organization and understand the dynamics between team owner Robert Kraft and Belichick, I don’t expect anything to be determined with so much season remaining," reports Russini. "But if people I talk to had to bet, their money is on a mutual parting of the ways at the end of the season.

That's certainly one of the most definitive stances we've seen any NFL insider take this season regarding Belichick's future. Sure, many have acknowledged it is a possibility but to suggest that's where sources are leaning is pretty big.

The Patriots are 2-7 ahead of their Week 10 contest to be played in Frankfurt, Germany. But the worries are not just about the win-loss record. It's about having the 24th offense, 14th defense, and 29th special teams unit per DVOA. It's about failing to build a better roster by making few bets in free agency and missing on the swings they've taken. It's about not having something in place that makes fans look forward to even next season.

It's uncharted territory for Belichick in New England. But the truth is that as long as we ignore the name of the head coach, this would be a hot-seat situation on any team.
