The New Orleans Saints fell to the Minnesota Vikings, 27-19, in Week 10. Derek Carr suffered a shoulder injury and a concussion.

Jameis Winston entered for Carr in the second half and brought them back from a 24-3 deficit. Winston made a couple big mistakes, but he also pushed the ball downfield to their talented skill players to make stuff happen for the Saints on offense.

Regardless, Saints head coach Dennis Allen made it clear that there's no QB competition in New Orleans. Derek Carr is the team's starter when healthy.

"We’re not in a competition there. … Derek Carr is our starting quarterback.”

— HC Dennis Allen

After giving Carr a four-year deal this past offseason, they have plenty of belief in him as the team's starter. That being said, the results have been extremely inconsistent.

Week 10's first half performance showed that. Carr and the offense never got in a groove, and he looked timid to push the ball downfield. Alvin Kamara was the only bright spot for the offense in the first half.

Carr left the team's Week 3 loss with a shoulder injury, and now, another injury to that shoulder has returned. He did not miss a start after suffering the injury earlier in the season.

The veteran Carr will be the team's starter after they gave him that deal – regardless of how well Winston played in his time filling in. That's just the NFL.

The Saints are on bye next week, so Carr and others will have extra time to recover and get back to full strength before the Saints play again.

New Orleans plays the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12. It will be a major matchup for the NFC South.
