Right before the Cincinnati Bengals fell to the Houston Texans via a game-winning field goal, edge defender Trey Hendrickson fell to the ground with an apparent knee injury.

Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Hendrickson's injury is said to be a hyperextended knee.

The image of the two-time Pro Bowler going to the ground and holding his knee was scary after wide receiver Noah Brown collided with him, but the Bengals seemed to have avoided disaster here. A hyperextended knee is significantly better than a torn ligament like an ACL or MCL.

Unfortunately, it's still an injury that will take time to heal nonetheless. Hyperextended knees typically take a couple weeks to heal, and the timing is not ideal for several reasons.

Cincinnati has three days until a Thursday night battle against the AFC North-leading Baltimore Ravens. The short week essentially confirms Hendrickson will not be 100% and will likely miss the game entirely.

At 5-4 and in last place in their division, the Bengals are running out of opportunities to drop games, and seven out of their final eight games are against AFC teams in the playoff hunt along with them. A loss to the Ravens this week would essentially eliminate their chances of overtaking them for the division by the time the season ends.

Hendrickson's value goes without saying. He's the Bengals' best pass rusher by a long shot, and they're already down fellow starter Sam Hubbard due to an ankle injury.

The Bengals may've dodged a bullet, but the road to where they want to go just got a lot harder.
