Well, that game did not go the way that I think most Detroit Lions fans and writers thought that it would. The Lions looked like a team destined to lose a trap game for 55 minutes before they remembered that they're a good team and that they'd just rather win.

On Friday we dove deep into the stats and analytics to try to predict which four Lions would have the most success against the Bears and why they would have it. Now it's time to go back and take a look at how those predictions fared. Let's jump into it.

Amon-Ra St. Brown

Let’s start it off with the St. Brown. For the second straight week, the stats and analytics favored St. Brown and he showed up. Geez, I think this must mean he’s a really good receiver or something.

St. Brown finished the day with eight catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. The big thing that I thought St. Brown would be able to do in this game is beat up the Bears with yards after the catch. The Bears led the league in yards allowed after the catch going into this game and St. Brown was 10th in the NFL in yards after catch. Did he beat them up with that? Sorta.

St Brown had 30 yards after the catch in Sunday's game. That's his second lowest in the last five weeks. He had 70 against the Chargers in Week 11 and 53 against the Raiders in Week 9. So he's been better for sure.

30 isn't bad though. It was enough to move St. Brown form 10th in the league in YAC to seventh. So that's good.

Jameson Williams

I predicted that Williams could have big day because the Bears have been susceptible to the big play all season long. Turns out that prediction was correct. Williams burnt the Bears on a huge 32-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Was it the breakout game I predicted? Again I'm going to go with "sorta" as the answer. Williams didn't ball out to the point where he had a bunch of catches for a bunch of yards, but he made two big plays in the receiving game and played the most snaps he's ever played in an NFL game. So that sorta feels like a breakout game. He also firmly earned the trust of his team on Sunday. That's definitely a big moment.

Alim McNeill

The prediction was based off the weakness of the Bears interior line. I felt that they were susceptible to McNeill doing some damage in there and that was correct. McNeill got his fifth sack of the season on Justin Fields and it happened because he flew up the middle.

McNeill also got two pressures on Sunday, so he was very close to getting another sack. He did hit Fields two other times, but it was after the ball came out. McNeill also registered a tackle for a loss in this game as well. It was a very good performance from him.

Jack Campbell

I reached on this one. I knew it was a reach on Friday, but it felt like a risky reach due to Campbell’s run stopping ability. Campbell got beat up on all day though. It was a very bad day for the rookie. He finished the day with nine tackles, but a lot of them were him chasing a guy down after he got beat by said guy or it was Campbell tackling someone with another guy. It was just a rough day.

The prediction I had was that Campbell could help stop Justin Fields from using his feet. That didn't happen. Fields ran for 104 yards on Sunday and you can see in the above picture that Campbell wasn't able to stop him.

The Lions win was a lot more improbable than initially thought

I'm getting older. That's something that you just have to deal with in life I suppose. I turned 38 last week. I know, it's not that old. That's not the point. The point is that I realized that I've been watching football for most of that 38 years and I've witnessed a lot. But I […]
