Sunday's loss wasn't an easy one. Most fans aren't mad that the Raiders lost, as they have been doing a lot of that the last few years, but instead are bad because there were ample opportunities to win the game, and they just couldn't come through.
Could you have imagined if the Raiders beat the Miami Dolphins, a team that has firmly submitted themselves as a contender in the AFC? The league wouldn't have wanted that. But, the offense struggled to do anything, really, even when the defense kept forcing turnover after turnover.
Aidan O'Connell, the rookie quarterback, definitely didn't play his best ball. He is not the reason the offense was bad, but he certainly deserves some responsibility, as his three interceptions did not help anything. But, with this being the worst game he has had so far in his young career, maybe it was an eye-opener for him.
"I'm learning how hard it is in the NFL and how hard it is to win…our defense did an awesome job keeping us in the game," O'Connell told reporters after the loss. "It's really going to come down to our offense. We have to watch the film and be better. It starts with me."
Maybe seeing that he can indeed play a game as bad as he did, one on the same level as one of Jimmy Garoppolo's bad games, will open his eyes to the fact that it isn't as easy as he thought it was. I know that sounds crazy. But you have to think about it.
His second and third starts were games that made everything much easier on him than his last game. Going through struggles like this and realizing he can't take anything for granted will be good for him. It helps that the team is already rallying around him as well.
