Many thought that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick had a significant fallout when his tenure with the New England Patriots ended following the 2019 season.
So with the recent rumors that Belichick's time in New England might be coming to an end, many were waiting to hear what Brady had to say. And he finally broke his silence.
“I think he's an incredible coach," Brady said on the Steven A. Smith Show (via WEEI's Mike Kadlick). "He's the best coach, in my belief, in the history of the game."
"So, I mean, I don't know, the thought of him not being in New England is hard for me to think about," Brady added. "So I, I think he's— he prepares the team really well. And ultimately, you got to have a lot of people around you to succeed. You gotta have a lot of things in place for the organization to be successful."
After losing Brady, the Patriots have been slowly declining. And this season is certainly the worst. Heading into Week 12, the Patriots have a 2-8 record after the bye week.
And because of that, many have started to call for Belichick's job.
"I don't think he's probably coaching much different now than when we're undefeated in 2007," Brady said. "I'm sure he's preparing the team the same way… The results are different, but again, that's why the sport is so challenging. There's a lot of reasons why teams win or lose."
Brady and Belichick spent 20 seasons together, winning six Super Bowl championships in what is referred to as the Patriots dynasty.
But the future Hall of Famer opted to spent the final years of his career with a different team, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Yet, it seems there is no bad blood between the two.
Brady also spoke on the Patriots recent struggles, explaining that not all of the blame should be falling on Belichick's shoulders.
"The head coach is a very small part on game day," Brady said. "The quarterback plays a really big part on game day, not the entire thing, but because you touch the ball, you have a big opportunity to impact the game."
Mac Jones has also taken a lot of the blame, with the third-year quarterback struggling this season. Because of that, he has been benched three times this season.
And the Patriots have yet to name a starter heading into the Week 12 matchup against the New York Giants.
So one thing has become clear this season: the Patriots could certainly use Brady right now.
But unfortunately, that's not happening.
