Dallas Cowboys backup offensive tackle Chuma Edoga was carted off the sideline during the fourth quarter of the Week 8 matchup versus the Los Angeles Rams, per the FOX broadcast. He was later transported to the locker room.
After the Cowboys' 43-20 win, insider Michael Gehlken from Dallas Morning News reports it's a right ankle injury. Fortunately, the belief seems to be it's a low sprain as opposed to a high ankle sprain, which would knock out Edoga for multiple weeks.
Gehlken added that Edoga left AT&T stadium without a protective boot, another promising sign following the injury. Avoiding a significant injury to the backup offensive lineman could matter much more than fans might initially think.
After all, Edoga, who filled in for an injured Tyron Smith in Week 8, has been a key member of the Cowboys this season. He's started five games, including at left guard and left tackle. And while he has been a notable downgrade, he also hasn't been a serious liability.
On Sunday, it was fifth-round rookie Asim Richards who took the field in his place during Sunday's win over the Rams.
The goal for the Cowboys should be to not even need Edoga next weekend as they continue to navigate offensive line injuries. Against the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive line, they'll need their best five linemen. Of course, offensive line depth can make or break the season. Hopefully, Edoga will be back healthy soon.
