New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr had his best performance in black and gold in Week 8. In the team's 38-point outburst, Carr was cool, calm, and collected, completing 19 of 27 pass attempts for 310 yards and two touchdowns.
The offensive line played well for the most part, and his receivers did their job. Taysom Hill's impact was clear, too.
Going against the Indianapolis Colts, Carr may have had an upper hand before the first snap. Colts defense coordinator Gus Bradley spent time with the Raiders while Carr was the QB there.
According to Saints WR Michael Thomas via Luke Johnson, Derek Carr tipped the Saints off to a coverage technique that helped the Saints hit the 51-yard pass to Shaheed in the 4th quarter today. That sealed the win for New Orleans.
"Our nugget was that they played top shoulder, so he's going to tell them to run to the top shoulder. They're going to cut you off – no go-balls.
So what we did is we set 'em up and we'd take an inside release. We never take an inside release on go (routes). So we take an inside release, and now they've never seen it."
— Michael Thomas
The tidbit used by Carr and co. was a major one to make sure that the Saints got a needed Week 8 win over a gritty Colts team.
With the victory, the Saints improved to 4-4 and are tied atop the NFC South with the Atlanta Falcons.
