Cleveland Browns have been busy on the day of the NFL trade deadline but it hasn’t been with trades.

The Browns have made multiple practice squad additions on the day now and the latest is veteran running back Kenyan Drake. Drake broke the news himself this morning before it was later confirmed by the Browns.

Along with signing Drake, the team brought in wide receiver James Proche. In corresponding moves, the team released running backs Nate McCrary and Jordan Wilkins from the practice squad.

Drake is in his eighth NFL season and has appeared with four teams. He started with the Miami Dolphins for the first three years of his career after being a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. During his fourth season with Miami, he was moved to the Arizona Cardinals, then spent 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders.

In 2022, Drake had 482 rushing yards with the Baltimore Ravens as a key piece of their depth. He played in 12 games with five starts for the Ravens.

Drake’s best season was the 2019 season split between Miami and Arizona where he totaled 1,162 total yards, as he’s always been a threat in the passing game too.

The Browns continue to mess around with the depth at running back. Jerome Ford, Kareem Hunt, and Pierre Strong Jr. remain on the active roster. Strong had his first flash for the Browns this past week against the Seahawks with 41 yards receiving and rushing each.

Cleveland is certainly active this Tuesday but it may not be the way that fans have expected to this point.
