Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce didn't hold back in his assessment of the offense following the Week 8 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Speaking with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles C Jason Kelce, on the weekly episode of their "New Heights Show" podcast, Kelce voiced his frustrations following the loss.
"We've got to talk about it," Jason Kelce said. "Broncos 24, Chiefs 9."
"F—," Travis Kelce uttered. "That's embarrassing, man."
"It felt awkward during the game, like we couldn't get anything going," Travis continued. "You're talking about that sense of urgency on the sideline. It didn't feel like we had too much of that and when we finally had that sense of urgency we turned the ball over."
If it wasn't one thing it was something else for the Chiefs in Week 8. From protection issues to turnovers to drops, it was a comedy of errors for Kansas City. Perhaps the most embarrassing part of it for Kelce is the fact that he feels the offense has let the defense down multiple times this season. It isn't a familiar situation for this offense.
"Our defense is playing their tail off and for us to keep turning it over and putting them in bad positions and saving our tail, it's getting real one-sided," Travis explained. "I don't think I've been in a situation where we've stalled this much as an offense throughout the year, and definitely (not) at this point of the season. We've got a lot of guys that usually figure out how to get this thing going and this shit's frustrating, man."
Kelce went on to address the fans, explaining that their frustration is valid and it's not lost on the players and coaches.
"Not putting up touchdowns, week after week, it's getting old. It's getting old to watch, Chiefs Kingdom, I know it is. It's not like what we've been in the past. We've got the best offensive mind in the game. We've got the best quarterback, so this is unacceptable and we all feel that way. So don't think we're not in this thing feeling the urgency. We've just got to go out there and freaking do it."
So, how does the team get out of their current offensive funk?
"It starts with not killing ourselves, man," Travis proclaimed. "Daggers. Just, guys running the wrong routes. Guys not making blocks. Guys dropping the football. It's frustrating and it's a challenge at this point in the season to get this thing right, right now, before it gets out of control and gets really bad."
Kelce added that the offense wanted to be on the attack against the Broncos in Week 8. But it seemed like in this particular week they were lacking the energy and want-to needed to be an "attacking" offense against a team that was eager to get a win. That's not exactly what you want to hear about a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Hopefully, this opened some eyes and they can get their act together ahead of their Week 9 matchup with the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany.
