FOXBOROUGH, Mass – Mac Jones has received a lot of hate this season, having made many questionable decisions and inaccurate throws.

However, on Sunday the quarterback didn't listen to the haters and instead took advantage of a key opportunity during the second quarter.

In their first three drives of the game, the Patriots turned it over on downs followed by two consecutive three-and-outs. And while all this happened, the Washington Commanders had gotten a two-score lead.

But then things turned around.

Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai punched the ball out on a run from Brian Robinson and it was Davon Godchaux who recovered for New England.

With perfect field position, Mac Jones took the field and within a few plays, he managed to connect with Hunter Henry for a 14-yard touchdown pass.

However, Jones deserves a lot of credit for this play.

The quarterback threw a perfectly placed ball into the hands of Henry, who was in tight coverage. And the tight end brought it in to finally get New England on the scoreboard.

There are numerous issues with this Patriots team this season, but it is clear that Jones is not playing to the standard that is expected of a third-year quarterback. And the time for excuses is up.

But the Patriots continue to have trust in him, and he provided a glimpse into why that is with that throw to Henry.

This doesn't erase the past and it will take a lot more of these plays to get faith restored back into Jones, but this was a good place to start.
